His advisor, Reverend Hamish MacNabb, encourages Chisholm to become a missionary, and soon the young priest sets off for the village of Pai-tan in the Chekkow province of China. Accepting his vocation, Chisholm becomes a priest, but fails at his first two positions. Chisholm rushes home but Nora dies before his arrival. Finally Chisholm learns that Nora, heartsick at her imagined abandonment, has given birth to an illegitimate daughter. Chisholm continues his studies but is mystified by a letter from Polly asking him not to come home during the summer. Despite Chisholm's profession of love, Nora fears that he will become a priest, as Polly wants, and when he returns to college with Angus and bids farewell to his best friend, atheist medical student Willie Tulloch, Nora despairs. Polly and Ned provide the boy with a stable home, and as he grows up, Chisholm falls in love with their daughter Nora. As Lisbeth helps her wounded husband home, they are drowned in a raging river, and Chisholm goes to live with Alex's cousins, Polly and Ned Bannon. The Catholic Alex has difficulties in the Protestant village, however, and one night, he is attacked. When Sleeth retires for the night, he finds Chisholm's diary and begins to read: In 1878, Chisholm is a young boy who is loved by his fisherman father Alex and mother Lisbeth. Sleeth asserts that Chisholm's sermons are too eccentric, but Chisholm, who has been home for only a year after decades of service as a missionary in China, wishes to remain in Tweedside with his ward Andrew. Chisholm asks Sleeth to reconsider his recommendation that he be forced to retire, and reminds Sleeth that he was boyhood friends with Bishop Angus Mealy, who ordered the investigation. Lara then tossed the Ankh of Osiris and it was destroyed. In 1938, Monsignor Sleeth is about to conclude a week-long visit to the Tweedside, Scotland parish of elderly priest Francis Chisholm, whom he considers unfit. The gods kicked Lara out of Pleroma, and she defeated Zahir Zalat who just revealed himself to be Osiris, and used the Ankh of Osiris to kill the body he inhabited. The soldiers of each faction of the Cabal arrived and saw the bodies of their leaders, they all blamed the others and a war broke out between them. In the real world, Zahir Zalat moved the bodies of the people who went though, as it was a mental plane where no physical bodies were allowed and contacted the leaders of the Cabal luring them to Pleroma. The gods then intervened and the cabal fell to their knees, and ascended. The Wheel of Ezekiel however trapped her. The Curator used the Eternal Flame on Lara, which had no effect on her. Lara and the Cabal had a fruitless shootout in the Pleroma while the gods watched. After Lara had crossed over the Curator and the agents of the cabal followed her through. Zahir Zalat shows Lara the Astrolabe of Mashallah, and Lara decides to use it and travel to Pleroma.
Lara wanted to known why he claimed it, and of what danger Heinrich warned her of. Lara goes to meet Zahir Zalat, who by his own words was resurrected by Lara Croft. They call for a Curator and task him in in retrieving the Ankh of Osiris by any means necessary and allowed him to access any artifact he wishes to do it.
The Cabal convenes and is worried that the public is made aware of the occult. London news reports on the events as they had a cameraman in the room while it all happened. Unknown to her though some spirit left the statue and entered Zahir Zalat's body and revived him. After Lara had no use of the Statue of Osiris she destroyed it. She also used the ankh to bring Heinrich back to life, but Heinrich was not happy with that and was rambling, then he ran and jumped out of the window killing himself again. Lara retrieved the Ankh of Osiris, and used the ankh to animate the Statue of Osiris to life to battle The Cabal. Lara Croft revealed himself and had a shootout with the assailant, during which Zahir Zalat was killed. To prove his theory Heinrich shows the Ankh of Osiris and starts chanting, during which he is gunned down. He talks about a fringe science of Pleroma, and the crowd does not believe him. Professor Heinrich is conducting a lecture in the British Museum, London.
